The Norwegian Government has stated that Norway shall be a leading nation in environmental policy. Norway will press for a more comprehensive and ambitious climate agreement to succeed the Kyoto Protocol. Norway will follow up its commitments and reduce emissions nationally as well as internationally.

Norway condemns the attack on civilians in Jerusalem on 2 July

Norway condemns the brutal attack on civilians in Jaffa Street in Jerusalem on Wednesday 2 July in the strongest terms. Norway conveys its deepest condolences and sympathy to the families of the victims.

High level competition in Bergen

State aid and competition regulation were central topics of discussion when Minister of Government administration and reform, Ms Heidi Grande Røys, last Wednesday and Thursday met with European Competition Commissioner, Ms Neelie Kroes, in Bergen.

New Act on Ports and Fairways

“With its proposed new Act on Ports and Fairways, the Government will facilitate the safety of navigation, efficient transport at sea and sustainable use and management of fairways. The Act also contributes to the efficiency and safety of port operations, which in turn improves the competitiveness of sea transport,” said Helga Pedersen Minister of Fisheries and Coastal Affairs after the Government presented its proposal to the Storting.

Changes in the Government

In today’s extraordinary session of the Council of State the King has appointed Mr. Lars Peder Brekk (52), Member of Parliament, Rørvik, as Minister of Agriculture and Food. Minister of Petroleum and Energy Åslaug Haga has been honourably discharged from her post. At the same time several ministers have been given new responsibility:
